Another African Animal Adventure

Last Monday, President Jackson asked us to meet them at Chobe Lodge and spend the night and have a little planning meeting.  Chobe is the lodge on the Nile that we love to go to.  It's only about 1 1/2 hours from here.  It's located in the Murchison Falls National Park.  After leaving the main highway, there is a dirt road that leads to the park.  It's about 10 kilometers.  While we were traveling on that little road, about 5:30 in the afternoon, we ran across a big herd of elephants and giraffes.  It was their feeding time and they were really pretty close to the road.  We got some great pictures and sat there for quite some time just watching them.  They were watching us too.   We were the only ones around.  We loved it!

see the baby elephant?

This one tried to scare us away.  We were ready to take off if needed.  He moved his ears in and out and stamped his feet and then just turned around and walked off.

It was fun to watch them pull up the grass with their trunks and then stuff it in their mouths.

Our room at Chobe.

The view from our balcony.

We don't usually get to see a sunset.  This one over the Nile was beautiful.

The hippo's come out of the water in the evenings to feed on the grass.  We can watch them from the balcony's.

Our favorite spot--so far-- in Northern Uganda.

We saw only one elephant when we left the park.  He came to tell us goodbye.

We see a truck tipped over along the highway quite often.  The pavement has no shoulder and drops off quite a bit so when these top heavy and overloaded trucks go off the pavement, it's easy for them to tip over.  To warn other motorists when there is a stalled vehicle or an accident, they put branches along the road before and after the vehicle.

Not a great picture through the windshield but you get the picture.

Just another day in Africa
